Emic Tastiness and the Welsh Dwarf Gambit

Two quotes from recent readings that have made me laugh out loud. Proving once and for all that I'm a total GEEK!

1) "Local dietary limitations in specific types of nutrients probably account to a large degree for the emic tastiness or desirability of certain food types." (B. Hayden, 1988. Nimrods, piscators, pluckers and planters: The emergence of food production.)

2) "Nor is it a defeat of the proposition if someone produces one thin, or several thin, undereducated millionaire Welsh dwarfs (I call this the Welsh dwarf gambit)." (K. Hopkins. 1995/6. Rome, Taxes, Rents and Trade.)

And they say stuffy academics don't have a sense of humor! ; )

(Can I procrastinate more??)
