I Heart My Butter Dish!
Dec. 2nd, 2004 04:19 pmIt’s official! What is the greatest thing since sliced bread? The BUTTER DISH!! I don’t know how I could not have realized it before. I have been practically living up on campus for the past three weeks, loaded down with tons of evil deadlines, and often only coming home to change my clothes, get a quick bite to eat and run back to campus. And that “bite to eat” more often than not has been toast (thanks to my superamazinglygenerous friend Margaret who bought me a toaster oven – thanks, babe!). I had been reluctant to leave any food out at all because of my slight ant problem, but after one too many squashed disasters involving rock hard lumps of butter and delicately crispy slices of bread I decided to risk it. And lo and behold! No ants, and perfectly spreadable butter every time!! WOOO HOOOOO! Absolutely brilliant. Someone deserves a posthumous Nobel Peace Prize for that lovely invention. Ahhhh, toast. Food of the gods. : )
So that’s about the level of my life these days. Finished drawing my damned boat – forgot several key components, but overall it looked okay. No way I will get lower than a B, and that’s all that matters. (Must get assistantship again next year….!) I made it through my last presentation today, despite my comically impaired voice. A cold/cough has rendered it either low and gravelly or high and hoarse depending on the whims of my vocal cords. Cool. I told the prof later that I hoped it hadn’t been too annoying and he said, no, it was actually rather entertaining. D’oh! Very odd. Everyone said I should get brownie points for even going through with it instead of trying to weasel out. But that never occurred to me – after our opening day lecture in which he told us that a previous student had been run over by a car a few days before the final paper was due and still managed to get it in on time, it was pretty clear that deadlines were immutable. Yikes. Tough crowd.
So now it’s just one nasty ass paper and an exam and the semester will be over. Yahoo! If I can just keep myself from getting sucked into bingeing on slash….. BAD BAD BAD. And I’m supposed to write a story for this bill/remus fest thingy, and I had a great idea involving nasty evil vampire dudes but then someone offered up a remus/vampire challenge so now everyone will be writing similar stories and all my thunder will have been stolen (which is what we call it here when the prof manages to make all the key points in his lecture that you were about to make in your presentation, especially if it involves describing the very coolest aspect of your ship, if you are lucky enough to have a “coolest” aspect). Anyway, I’m debating whether to give it up altogether and come up with a new plot, or just write it anyway and suck it up. Not, um, suck in a vampiric way, that is… or even in a slashy way either… ;p Oh well. Will worry about it after evil paper is done.
Guess that’s it from sunny Texas for a while. Sunny but surprisingly cold – it actually got down into the 30s last night! Yeeeehaaaaa. Had to turn my heat on and everything. Crazy.
PS - I meant to post this last night when I was feeling strangely chipper, but could not get livejournal to work on the wireless network I was piggy-backing on. (Shame on me!) So now I'm posting it from the computer lab at school where I find myself excessively cranky because there was no free terminal for me to hook up my laptop and I am using one of their machines and I have transfer stuff over with my flash drive and I have to listen to other people typing and it just drives me CRAZY. And it may be that I'm overreacting due to PMS but that doesn't make me any less annoyed! GRRRRRRR..... Maybe I'll write something to calm me down. NO! MUST RESEARCH TERM PAPER. ARGH!
