Alive and Well and Living in Turkey
May. 26th, 2006 10:35 amWell, I made it to Turkey!!! Woohoo! Despite lugging nearly 50 kilos halfway across several airports and despite one of those airports being on fire and missing our bus into town at the last one and then not having a working phone card to call for a ride once we got into town... phew. It was an adventure and all that.
Weather here is hot, but not as humid as Texas, so I really can't complain. And it actually cools off at night, too. Bonus! We have a stray cat named Jojo who harasses us for food every chance he gets. But he's black and cool and totally owns the place, so we tolerate it. ; )
Had a delicious meal last night. Can't wait to check out more Turkish food. I really hope I can handle the yogurt here cuz the little I sampled was delicious. Stupid lactose intolerance. Grrrrr.
More folks arriving tomorrow, which will be nice in some ways, though I will miss the peace and quiet we have now. (I'm such a misanthrope!) But since I'm going to be stuck on the side of a cliff with these folks for three months I think I can be forgiven for enjoying being alone while I can! Off to the site on June 4th. Then I get to spend my birthday building dorms and unloading boats. Weehaaa! Can't think of anything I'd rather be doing for my 35th! (No, Really!) After slaving away in Real World Central for 10 years, I am so happy to be out here doing this. Now if I can just keep myself from dying in a hideous diving accident, I'll be all set. (To any readers out there, if there is nothing posted here by Christmas, you can assume that I did, indeed, die in a hideous diving accident. If that's the case, I apologize in advance for any unfinished story arcs I might have going....)
