Ok, so I can be the dumbest git on the planet, but at least I amuse myself. So I was anime surfing last night, in a procrastination/feel-sorry-for-myself tag-team marathon from hell, and I came across Haru wo Daiteita. Looked like some hot man-on-man action (that would be the pronounced-ax-ee-own-in-a-bad-French-accent kinda action) so hey, who was I to say nay? So the main characters are rival actors who are trying to overcome their past as AV actors.

And what's the first thing I think of when I see "AV actor"? Yup, you guessed it, anime voice actor. And so I spent a good half an hour wondering why one of them is so ashamed of having been an anime voice actor. I was like, well, sure, it's not as prestigious, but is it really something to be ashamed? of? It didn't even dawn on me when they had a flashback to an audition which involved them nekkid in bed together. If anything, it just made me wonder what went on behind the scenes at Japanese anime recording sessions. ;P I have no idea what managed to knock it through my thick skull, but I finally realized that they were adult video actors - DUH! - and then things started to make a whole lot more sense.

*headdesks* Still, it makes me laugh to picture it... "You have a great voice - I think you'd be perfect for Ranma, but first, into the sack - let's see what you got." *guffaw*chortle*chortle* "I can't believe Ninjaball Q has gotten so popular... what if my mom sees it? She'll recognize my voice and know what I really am. It would break her heart." Bwahahahahahaaaaaaa!!! Oh God, I'm such a nerd.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled life.

*grins at you* HWD is a great series. Have you seen the Winter Cicada OAV yet? It's sad but really well done.

It's funny the way the brain works isn't it? Being a geek it took me the longest time to see HP as Harry Potter not Hewitt Packard. Made for a few serious WTF moments.

Grrrrrrr. Just typed a whole reply and my computer swalled it when I accidently hit some stupid ass back button on the side of the mouse. AARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH. Anyway, I'll try to reconstruct...

HWD was definitely a lot of fun, and so nice to find one about grown men, not high school boys or various skeevy man/boy combos. Just watched Winter Cicada yesterday! It was excellent!! Sad, you're right, but beautiful animation. And I felt slightly forewarned, since whenever an anime starts with "Year X of the Meiji Era" you just know it's not going to end well.

I can totally see the HP thing! And how hilarious could that be? "HP fanfic? Like 'His processor speed was the fastest in the room, and his wireless card rippled just so whenever a signal came through'...?"

(FINALLY! Comment editing!! Took them long enough.) Thanks for the link, though maybe I shouldn't have opened it on the library computer... :)

*hugs* I hate it when I lose replies. It's pound the head on the desk time.

I don't know much about Japanese history, but I had a feeling from the get go it was not going to be a happy ending. I'm right there with you on loving that it was grown men though I just finished watching Gakuen Heaven which is about an all boys school and I really loved it. The anime is pretty innocent - just some kisses, but the manga gets fairly graphic.

I so dare you to write that HP fic now *howls*

Oops. sorry, my bad for not marking it as questionably work safe.

Most of my knowledge of that time period comes from Rurouni Kenshin (the manga actually comes with pretty detailed historical notes for those of us who never learned this stuff in history class). I get confused on all the names and the sides, so I mostly just have an overall impression of civil war combined with influx of new technology (aka western guns) and obligations of honor which often conflict with one's own wishes. Overall score: Not Happy.

Hey - Gakuen Heaven! That's what started my whole binge in the first place. I kept seeing it mentioned in people's blogs so I figured I'd check it out. It was very sweet, and I didn't think anyone was too girly so it didn't annoy me on that level. And there were lots of hotties, which was nice, of course. Interesting that the manga gets more graphic.... hmmm... maybe I need to check that out. ;P (Not that I don't have enough money tied up in manga as it is!!)

Sadly, I don't have enough geek speak at my command to follow through on my fic prompt. Though I think someone around here does... *whistles nonchalantly*

(No worries - my fault for even checking this blog in a public place! Duh!)

I keep hearing Kenshin referred to as one of those anime/mangas that people get started with. It's on my list to check out at some point I just haven't had to chance to watch beyond Samurai X. Mirage of Blaze had a lot of history in it too and lost me several times on that score, but it was still a good story especially for being plucked from the middle of a long series of novels.

Gakuen Heaven was a nicely done anime and I agree the guys weren't too femmy even Naruse who was OMG!oh so gay. Fair warning, the pairing in the manga is different and as there is only one volume it is not even close to being as fleshed out as the anime. I have scanlations, if you're interested I will upload them for you. I enjoyed both, but I'm glad I read the scanlations first.

*looks around for someone with extensive geek speak*

You may be borrowing the hat of fruit, if you'd like. ;p

I think I was saved that confusion because the summary, when I first read the scanlation, spelled it out instead of using "AV". I do like your interpretation, though.

THANKS!! I totally need the hat of fruit for this one!! guh.

Some advanced knowledge probably would have helped. I just slid into this through a link after watching Gakuen Heaven, so I really had no idea what it would be besides yaoi-themed. At least I didn't think "Audio-visual actors? But doesn't that go without saying?"
